About us

What is the Scenic City Children’s Choir? It is a children’s home school elementary chorus.

Our purpose is to develop the young artist, via regular weekly meetings for musical education, concerts, and possibly festivals or contests.  It will be open to the greater Chattanooga area home schooling community.

When will the choir meet?  Tuesday afternoons, 3:20 – 4:45 pm.

Here’s our current schedule for 2018-19 school year:

1st semester -13 weeks in the fall : beginning with our annual “Ready, Set, Sing!” meeting for parents on Tuesday August 28th at 3:30.Our first rehearsal will be the following Tuesday September 4th.

2nd semester – 15 weeks  in the winter/spring : these dates have not been determined yet.

Where will the choir meet? We will rehearse at Concord Baptist Church.

Who can be involved in this choir?  Home schoolers age 7 -13, and their parents.

Our choristers will be elementary and middle school aged students.  But, we also need each student to have a  parent or guardian who will volunteer and help make our choir a success!

We offer two options: two choirs will meet at the same time this year, from 3:20-4:45.

The Signal Chorus is for our younger singers, 1st thru 4th grade.

The Lookout Chorus is for our older singers, 5th thru 8th grade.

Who are the Directors? 

Melody Day (lead director) has been a part of the Chattanooga home schooling community since 1999, as a music teacher and a mom. As a graduate in piano performance from Bowling Green State University,  she has extensive experience working with children and music, as well as piano instruction and performance.   

Rebecca Phelps (assistant director) is a former home school student. A graduate from UTC with BS and MM in Music Education, she taught elementary music in Hamilton and Bradley county elementary schools for 8 years.
